The New York City ICE Hotline Number is 1-229-304-8720 Call if you see ICE This was in last week’s newsletter but if you didn’t listen to this podcast, please do.  Community Activist Mary Hernandez works with immigrants every day and keeps the community informed. Standing Up for Our Neighbors – Episode 127 of the podcast Left in the Forgotten Borough
Community Activist, Mary Hernandez, joined hosts Andrew Savage and Nanci Richards to discuss how communities on Staten Island are coping with ramped-up ICE raids, detention center conditions, and how they respond. Watch https://tinyurl.com/msjs4uyy

Staten Island Adopt a Corner – Adopt a Corner groups are community volunteer networks that regularly visit local street corners, parking lots, and hiring sites where day laborers gather. Inspired by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), these allies act as witnesses, neighbors, and protective presences to deter harassment, monitor for immigration enforcement actions, and support vulnerable immigrant workers. Our local Adopt a Corner effort in Staten Island (Juntos Seguros) needs support and volunteers.  Learn more https://ndlon.org/adopt-a-day-labor-corner/ and click to register on the interest form for more information about Staten Island efforts.

No more Money for ICE – Sign an online letter to Congress that they must reject any funding to ICE and Border Control for Fiscal 2027. In June, Congress passed the S.2 reconciliation bill that provides ICE and Border Patrol another $70,000,000,000 (that’s 70 billion dollars). Now Congress is debating whether to give these same agencies an additional $30,000,000,000 through the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations process. Read more / sign at https://tinyurl.com/5339yxzw. CONTACTING OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS
Most of our elected officials have an easier summer calendar and may be found at their local offices. Bookmark this page at the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce which lists the address, phone and website for every elected official representing Staten Island at the borough, city, state, and federal level. www.sichamber.com/elected-officials. Consult www.5calls.org for a menu of dozens of topics and scripts to use when calling.

ARE YOU THERE, NIC? IT’S US, YOUR CONSTITUENTS
Nic likes to appear on TV but she’s not so keen on meeting her constituents.  Even so, CALL HER EVERY DAY because the House is in recess and she just may be hanging around her local office just waiting to take our calls.  Speaker Mike Johnson is so afraid his House might pass a bill Trump doesn’t want, the House has logged roughly 110 to 120 days in recess or out-of-session periods so far this year through late July 2026 and now once again they are in recess. Not sure what Nic did on her days off from work, but it certainly was not having a Town Hall. Let us call Rep. Malliotakis office every day, as many of us as possible to ask for a Town Hall (718) 568-2870
